Our Mission and Vision

We seek to be a congregation where worship, welcome, and service belong together, and where faith is expressed through everyday care for our community.

Rooted in Christ, Present in Community

Speers Pioneer Memorial United Church exists to gather people in worship, nurture faith across generations, and serve our neighbours with humility and love. Our mission begins in the life of the Gospel: to pray, to listen, to learn, and to respond with compassion. We believe the church is not only a building or a Sunday routine, but a living community shaped by grace and called to make that grace visible in the world.

Our spiritual mission is to create space for people to encounter God through worship, Scripture, music, sacrament, and fellowship. We want our services to be reverent without becoming distant, thoughtful without becoming abstract, and welcoming without losing depth. In a small community, faith often grows through familiar conversations, shared meals, hospital visits, and quiet acts of encouragement. We value those ordinary practices because they help form a durable and hopeful Christian life.

Our community service mission is grounded in the realities of rural Saskatchewan. We know that distance, weather, changing farm economies, and social isolation can weigh heavily on individuals and families. For that reason, we aim to be a congregation that notices needs early, responds practically, and treats service as part of discipleship rather than an optional extra. Whether through visitation, fellowship events, shared meals, or support for neighbours facing hardship, we want our church to remain useful as well as prayerful.

We also understand mission as outreach. Rural churches often serve broad geographic areas, welcoming people who may live outside the village itself but still look to the church for spiritual grounding and community connection. Our congregation wants to remain accessible to people at different stages of belief, belonging, and participation. We are committed to inclusive worship that reflects the United Church tradition of openness, thoughtful faith, and respect for the dignity of every person.

Our vision is to continue the witness of this congregation into a new generation. We hope to strengthen worship, grow intergenerational participation, preserve our pioneer heritage, and deepen partnerships that make the church a positive force in the village and surrounding district. We want children, youth, adults, seniors, visitors, and returning families to recognize this place as both historically grounded and spiritually alive.

In language that resonates strongly with us, The United Church of Canada describes its call as "Deep Spirituality, Bold Discipleship, Daring Justice." That phrase captures the direction we want for our own congregation: a faith that is rooted, active, and generous. Our prayer is that Speers Pioneer Memorial United Church will continue to embody that calling with integrity in the years ahead.
