Programs and Ministries

These ministries help our congregation care for children, teens, adults, seniors, and neighbours across the Speers district through faith formation and practical service.

A Place for Every Generation

Our ministry life reflects the rhythm of a rural congregation: intergenerational, practical, and deeply relational. Each program below is designed to strengthen faith and community together.

Children's ministry gathering

Sunday School / Children's Ministry

Children's ministry introduces young people to Bible stories, prayer, Christian values, and the life of the congregation in a way that is warm, age-appropriate, and encouraging. In a small church setting, this often means strong intergenerational connection: children are known by name, families are supported personally, and learning is linked to the wider worship life of the church. Lessons may include storytelling, seasonal activities, music, crafts, and simple practices that help children understand what it means to belong to a faith community. The goal is not only to teach information, but to cultivate trust, curiosity, and a sense that church is a place where children are welcomed, heard, and guided with care.

Schedule: Sundays during selected worship gatherings and seasonal family events. Contact: Through the church office at SpeersPioneerMemorial@hotmail.com
Youth ministry and fellowship activities

Youth Group

Youth ministry focuses on belonging, conversation, service, and faithful encouragement for teens navigating school, family life, and the transition into adulthood. In a rural context, youth group often becomes a steady place where friendships are strengthened and leadership skills can develop in meaningful ways. Gatherings may include discussion, local service projects, seasonal events, retreats, and participation in worship or congregational activities. Rather than treating young people as a separate audience, the church aims to involve them in the shared life of the congregation while also creating room for their questions, energy, and ideas. The program helps youth see Christian faith as relevant, thoughtful, and connected to everyday life.

Schedule: Twice monthly, with additional service activities during school-year seasons. Contact: Youth program coordination through the church leadership team.
Women's fellowship in a church setting

Women's Fellowship / UCW

The women's fellowship, often expressed through the long tradition of United Church Women, offers spiritual encouragement, companionship, and practical service. These gatherings have historically been central to church life in rural Canada, creating space for devotion, mutual care, fundraising for ministry needs, hospitality, and outreach to others in the community. At Speers Pioneer Memorial United Church, this ministry honours that legacy while remaining open to present-day needs and relationships. Meetings can include devotionals, planning, shared meals, support for events, and service initiatives that extend beyond the church building. The ministry fosters belonging and helps preserve many of the skills and traditions that have sustained congregational life for generations.

Schedule: Monthly fellowship gathering, plus support for church suppers and seasonal outreach. Contact: Available through the church office or Sunday morning announcements.
Seniors ministry and church fellowship

Seniors Ministry

Seniors ministry recognizes the wisdom, faithfulness, and lived experience of older members while also responding to the realities of aging in rural communities. Many seniors value regular contact, pastoral care, transportation support, and opportunities for fellowship that are both accessible and meaningful. This ministry may include visits, telephone check-ins, tea gatherings, prayer support, and remembrance of birthdays, anniversaries, or times of loss. It also ensures that long-standing members remain fully part of congregational life, not simply as recipients of care but as active contributors whose stories and steady witness continue to shape the church. In a congregation with deep historical roots, seniors ministry is also a way of preserving communal memory and honouring those who have carried the church across decades.

Schedule: Ongoing pastoral contact, seasonal teas, and fellowship gatherings throughout the year. Contact: Requests for visits can be shared through the contact page.
Community outreach ministry

Community Outreach

Community outreach puts Christian compassion into visible action. In a village and district setting, care often takes practical forms: helping coordinate meals, supporting food access, responding to hardship, connecting neighbours to available resources, and creating events that reduce isolation. This ministry is especially important in rural Saskatchewan, where formal services may be spread out and personal networks still matter deeply. Outreach at Speers Pioneer Memorial United Church is grounded in the belief that service is part of discipleship and that the church should remain attentive to what is actually needed around it. The ministry may support local initiatives, offer church-based hospitality, and encourage members to notice and respond when someone needs help, company, or encouragement.

Schedule: Year-round, with emphasis during harvest, winter support, and community events. Contact: Outreach conversations are welcome at 306-246-2665.
Bible study group and discussion

Bible Study

Bible study offers a quieter but essential part of congregational life: time to read Scripture closely, ask honest questions, and connect the biblical story to the realities of work, family, grief, service, and hope. In the United Church tradition, Bible study often combines reverence with thoughtful conversation, allowing participants to explore both the spiritual and practical meaning of a passage. At Speers Pioneer Memorial United Church, this ministry supports discipleship by giving people space to reflect together rather than carrying faith only as a Sunday habit. It is a setting where people can deepen confidence in prayer, broaden their understanding of Scripture, and build stronger bonds through shared learning and conversation.

Schedule: Wednesdays at 7:00 PM in the church hall. Contact: New participants may join by contacting the church office in advance.
